Taylor Tries: Red Wine Hot Chocolate

Like any great millenial, I spend my Christmas break browsing the internet and watch more Delish videos than I can count. I came across one for wine hot chocolate..yes wine & chocolate! So, obviously, I had to try it.

The simple recipe reads as follows:

2 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 c. cocoa powder

1/2 c. sugar

Pinch of kosher salt

6 c. whole milk

1 bottle red wine

Toasted marshmallows, for serving

Chocolate shavings, for serving

I made some changes to the recipe. Mainly, I halved everything because there was only me and one other person (my boyfriend who I "gently encourage" to try everything I do) who were brave enough to try it. I also used regular 2% milk because it was all I had on hand.

Soooooo the results.

Yeah. Delish-ish. Not my favorite to be honest. I love chocolate and I love sweet red wine, but mixing them together was top 1% of the country rich. I found myself reaching for my toothbrush and something salty afterwards just to clear my palate.

I had so much hope for this recipole but in the end it was just too much. What I thought was going to be a match made in heaven ended up being an average blind date.

If anything, making this recipe taught me that not everything on the Delish & Tasty videos are amazing. But it was fun to put together a cute Instagram video and try something new!
